I am happy to announce that my photograph “Stare Tactic” won a Silver Award in the 2023 in the PX3 Le Prix de la Photographie de Paris in the nature category.
This shot was unusual for me as it was in color ( I rarely enter color images in competitions) and it is of a bird (I am far from a birder). This peafowl is domesticated, of course, but it still provided a challenge for me to get a good tight head-on shot as it was constantly spinning around and squawking. I kept my distance using a telephoto lens but I eventually got chased by it after it apparently got tired of the shutter sound.
I was thinking black and white when I shot the image but since it is so high-key I actually liked the color version better. The slight pink beak and the stern look of the eyes offset nicely against the stark whiteness of the image.
