Round in Circles

That’s the way I feel about my photography. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don’t – and back again. Currently, I kind of like it. I’m not where I was thinking I wanted to go creatively, but I’m at least enjoying getting there. This is another shot taken during my exploration at the fairgrounds. It was just one of those…

LOL

Sometimes I like to laugh out loud -usually not when I’m typing on a touch screen 🙂

A post I forgot to title

This is, what I believe, a sago palm. Exotic looking, by all accounts, for a Pennsylvanian and that’s why it probably caught my eye as I was walking past it during my visit to South Carolina. I was struck by the sheer size of the seed pod and the fanning of the fronds which were perfect leading lines to my main subject –…

I know they’re in there somewhere

In a previous post, I had some photos I took at the local fairgrounds the day before opening, when things were being setup. I mentioned that I like to shoot the vintage (just old?) rides and games for the color. Well they are colorful, but I also think there is some deeper abstract photos to be found also. It wasn’t until I…

Aluminum lines

Abstract detail of the Alcoa Building in Pittsburgh. This was beside the bridge from the last post. This was an awkward angle but it seemed to work better than others. I enjoy this type of work and don’t get to perform it as much as I like.

Knitting a bridge

Although it didn’t quite look how I imagined when I heard that the Andy Warhol Bridge was being covered in yarn, it still was a cool site to see.  And feel, since the railing along the walkway was also yarn wrapped. Yarn bombing, they call it. Either way, I do like these large scale urban art projects. They really boost spirits…

A man…in a straw hat

Yes, an actual photo of a person that I don’t know! I know, rare, huh? This kind construction worker was nice enough to allow me to shoot his portrait, while he was on his break. I rarely, if ever, take people photos, especially straight on, but once in a while someone with a characteristic look pops into view. And unlike Pennsylvania, only in the…

A fair post

It’s county fair time and I got to the setup day a little late. I usually like to walk around the fairgrounds on the setup day to snap a few photos while there’s very little people around. It allows me to focus on the color and vintage details without the clutter of hundreds of people getting in the way. But…

Bicycle parts

Unlike boats, which I talked about in a previous post, I have spent a lot of time on bicycles. Maybe not as cool and vintagey as these but I did put in my share of time on two wheels. I would still be riding if I lived in a more biker friendly area, but I’ll save that story for later.

Like a song

This image came together very much like a recorded song. When you listen to a recorded song you are hearing the final product put together from multiple parts. From the notes, chords, and melody played by various instruments and singers. The choice of instruments, amplifiers, microphones, reverbs, effects, etc. all play a role in the sound. Then the recording process…
