Lenswork “Our Magnificent Planet 2021” book and site update

I am happy to announce that, for the second year in a row, one of my photographs was selected to be a part of the Lenswork Publishing “Our Magnificent Planet 2021” book. The book features 300 photographs from 300 photographers celebrating our natural world. It is an honor to be amongst such skilled artists. I was a little taken aback by the image that was chosen as it literally was a last minute fourth string entry. It is a photo that I liked personally but I really didn’t think others would find much value in it. Shows what I know!

Without further adieu, here is the winning entry:

As you can see, the image is a study of texture and pattern. That is something I look out for quite often. I just loved the texture and shape of these leaves when I saw them and thought there was just “something there”. Trying to come up with an interesting composition was another matter. I could only shoot so close with my Leica M9 and 50mm lens, so a macro shot was out and I just had to look for a nice grouping of leaves. Yes, even though you might not think so, I actually thought this shot through. Sometimes limitations in gear actually work in my benefit. If I had a super whiz-bang camera with me I may have not been so successful.

It is hard to tell here, and even with the book in hand, but my photo is also one of the cover images, albeit obscured by the book title. Last years image was featured on that books back cover. So two for two on making covers also!!

For what it’s worth, here are the other images I entered. The snow scene was taken December 2020, the others were from earlier this year. I haven’t been a studious blogger this year, so I will be updating in the next post some of my images from this past year that didn’t make it onto the blog. Until then, have a Happy New Year!!
