Something a little different. I took the smokestack picture today and the sky was nice but a little uninteresting. A good time to practice some Photoshop skills. I remembered I shot some rain clouds with lightning a couple of years ago so I searched my files and found the shot. I extracted the sky from the old photo and added it to the smokestack shot. I then converted to black and white using Nik Silver Efex for a dramatic look. I don’t have any fancy masking hardware and I really don’t know what I’m doing half the time in Photoshop, especially dealing with layers and blending, but I think I made it work. The one thing I don’t like is the sky seems a bit noisier on the left for some reason. I’m not sure what happened there but I may try it again some time to even things up more. Both shots with Pentax K20D, Smokestack with DA17-70, sky and lightning with DA18-55.
Smokestack Lightning
I admire your Photoshop skills. I saw the pic before I read the post, and I must say, it didn’t look Photoshopped!
Thanks. I’ll take that as a good sign that my practicing is paying off.
