Riders in the storm

What to do when you’re waiting out a really heavy rain in a parking lot? Why, take pictures of the rain of course! In this case, the rain that was running down the side window of my car. Things were a little tricky because the rain was fast and heavy which meant the drops were on the move.  Throw in…

Knot or not?

A maritime still life? Too dark? Too “textury”? Too warm? Too too? These are the questions I asked myself when working on this image. Believe or not (knot?), I like it. An old anchor, textured wood and rope, what’s not to like? I do like the lines of the rope taking you to the anchor and back. I seem to…

Just a photo this evening

I’m tapped out on verbiage at the moment. I’ll catch up tomorrow. For now, enjoy an architecture shot taken in Charlottte, NC.

Trials of creepiness

I had this idea to take this bride and groom photo that I shot while walking around Pittsburgh last weekend and add a Furry head to the groom. I looked in my files of Furries street shots to find just the right head at the right angle and came across this goat-like thing. That was the easy part. My Photoshop…

Found still lifes, No.4

Clearly this egg was a natural for a still life. It was located in a store that seems to specialize in kitschy 60’s furniture and décor. The color it reflected was nice but I liked the simplicity of the black and white, which eliminated a few distracting elements. I added a little grain to soften the mood a little.

Found still lifes, No.2

Continuing on with my antique store window “shopping”, I liked the science fiction look of this lamp. It was in a corner glass window so I was able to shoot through one window and catch the afternoon sunlight through the other. Color was OK but I think a texturized, toned black and white treatment worked good here.  Almost waiting for…

A fur to remember

When the annual Anthrocon Convention is in Pittsburgh, you can be sure furry hijinks will ensue!! It’s always fun on the 4th of July weekend to go downtown and watch the furry fun. It’s too bad I am the worlds worst street photographer. Gear that I use for my normal stationary subjects photography gives me a hard time when trying to…

A little dapple will do ya

Between the dappled light and the wood grain on the church door I couldn’t help but to take this shot. But it was kind of a let down after I took it. I didn’t want to simply shoot the whole door and I thought the railing would help balance out the composition. I think it helps but what it’s helping,…

Minimal reptile

I’m going to take a break from color and go dark. Real dark. This is what you do when you can’t get a close-up of an alligator (the not long enough lens thing). So to make the best of it I went simple and graphic. Does it work? Eh, I don’t know. This is one of the shots where I…

It’s that time

With the summer weather finally upon us I will be taking to some time to get some things done at the house and, of course, taking a holiday or two. I plan on doing some shooting whenever I can fit it in but I don’t know how often I’ll be posting – could be hit or miss. I may throw…
