365-164 Plastic coated weirdness

I noticed this dummy on a sign for a closed shopping center today. I drive past that way quite a lot and never noticed it before so someone placed it there recently. The dummy had a sign of some sort but it was folded over and I couldn’t see what it said. I like to think it’s a type of protest to the shopping center. The Foundry shopping center was constructed about 5 years ago with what promised to be a real nice center with walking areas, fountains, etc. Massive amounts of earth work took place to level a hillside which was once a rolling farmland. When it opened with a new JC Penny store and later a few other stores it was basically a strip mall with almost no other landscaping done. After a while I noticed that NO work was being done on the site and I suspected financial problems for the developer. It wasn’t long before I found out that was the reality which was followed by an unstable foundation under the open stores resulting in cracks and the eventual closing of the stores after being open only a few months. And that’s the way it stands today. A scarred and deserted “brand new” strip mall. There is only a Max and Ermas restaurant on site that remains open.

Here’s the last news story I’ve seen about the place.

Great shot and a very sad story. I feel for the area residents. Something like this isn’t resolved quickly. They’re left with an eyesore and no recourse.

Thanks John. I don’t see much happening to the site anytime soon.
