365-165 A new place and some processing fun

I discovered a nice park and lake not too far from my home. It’s kind of hidden behind some affluent suburban neighborhoods. It’s a decent size lake surrounded by wooded areas with nice paths. A lot nicer than my city park. I’ll have to go back and visit soon. The woods are really nice with mature trees and lots of places for macro nature type shots. I think in good light the area around the water could provide some good photo possibilities. I want to try to visit really early in the morning some day to get some fog on the water atmosphere. Today though, I was kind of there in the middle of the day and the light was a little flat. There were some nice dramatic clouds out today but when I was shooting the sky was almost overcast. Not a big deal in the woods but I was hoping to get a reflected clouds in the water type shot. I was thinking black and white when I was shooting but there wasn’t enough tonal contrast in the shots for anything to look very good in B&W. So I did a little experimenting in Photoshop using a combination of Topaz Adjust and Nik Silver Efex plugins. A little different look than normal. I went with a rare (for me) “landscape” type photo for my 365 today. All with pentax K20D and DA 17-70 or Da 55-300.

All of the photos are nice, but I particularly like the colors in the first photo and the angle of the dock.

Thanks. At least now I know of a good place when the weather/lighting conditions are right.
