So I am working out of town for a few more days and I’m having a tough time with my photography. I don’t know what it is but I’m not really happy with the direction it has been going the last few days (weeks?). I thought it would help being in a different city but so far it has been a little difficult. Of course my shooting time has been limited to the end of the day. So I feel the pressure to get a shot in and most likely just “shoot something” to at least get a photo in for the day. Plus, the city I am in isn’t that large but I find it tough to get around in, especially while trying to look for photo opportunities at the same time. I know I just need to relax, learn about the area, take my time and look around, and then just focus on the type of shots I want to do. So hang in there and I’ll try to turn this rig around. Pentax K20D, DA 17-70.

Just wanted to stop by and say that I’m still enjoying your photo journaling. You mentioned a few days ago on pic 200 that you feel bad for spamming your readers. I know that I enjoy your daily posts and it’s a good thing, not a bad thing in my opinion. As for your post yesterday I also have really enjoyed your B&W images, they feel more compelling. You make a good point though that not all images benefit from B&W conversion. Keep up the great exercises here and don’t get too discouraged!
Thanks for the encouragement Nathan. I just have my moments, I guess. It doesn’t help that I’m going through employment issues at the same time as trying to do a 365 project! But, I’m not giving up on either. Although I’m still looking for a full time job, I did secure a well paying assignment through my professional contacts. As for the photography, I will like it better when I can post on occassion with a nice set of photos instead of having to do something every day. Then again doing a 365 forces me to go out and do photography even when I don’t feel like it which, to me, is a good thing.
The black and white photos are a natural for the area I’m shooting in right now. Urban shots just seem to work well in black and white. I’m fine with that.
My brother has attempted multiple pic-a-day projects over the last few years. This Aug. he is starting a new one that is a one year pic-a-week project instead. My students and I are going to follow along with his weekly themes I think. Here’s his post about it:

That looks like an interesting and fun challenge. Thinking in those certain terms when you head out is great visual exercise. Looking forward to seeing the results!
