I don’t know why I’ve been on this black and white kick lately, but I may as well enjoy it while it’s here. Of course, coming across a scene like this helps fuel the fire somewhat. A simple scene of a pipe running through a bracket into some rubber flaps is transformed into a cool abstract when broken down into light and dark tones. Along with the mixed textures of the rusted bolt, the smooth pipe, and the rubber flap, everything just works together in harmony.

Okay, rather than just saying I like it, I should say why. First of all, the contrast of light to dark is fantastic. The balance and composition is spot on and I especially like the pipe that disappears into the void.

When we critique in class we are never allowed to get away with “I just like it.” So, like you, I’m trying to do that more on photoblogs too.
