These hunting tree stands are very prominent around the rural areas where I work. They range in style from small, manufactured generic ones to elaborate homemade versions, like the one pictured here. They all seem a little sketchy to me, from a safety standpoint. But I guess the idea is once you are in one you are not going to move around much anyhow. I think I’ll pass. But they do make for a nice textural study in black and white!
As a tree climbing kid I would have loved this. Still would, I suspect!
Same here, and I may have built something similar as a kid.
The general rule for hunting these days is to never climb into one of these things. Even if they are built well, after the first season, they start deteriorating and become unsafe. Of course, I’ve climbed into one before – yep, the ladder broke on the way up. It does make for a very nice photo though!
