When the going gets tough

I take a selfie.

Another Sunday and I thought I better post something. It’s been a while and I haven’t done anything exciting photographically for some time. I’ve been caught up in buying some new gear and not even having the chance to thoroughly test it out.  Between the never-ending winter and just getting some things done domestically It’s been tough to get out and test gear the way I would normally use it. I have tested things initially, to see if it actually functions, you know, the proverbial brick wall tests. Boring stuff.

One of my “just out of the box” tests that I did was to shoot a pair of reading glasses on the table with my newly acquired $25 Helios 58mm lens. It worked great and is a really sharp-shooter, if I say so myself.  And it was while looking at that test shot I got the idea for a self-portrait of sorts. I flipped the glasses picture upside down and took a quick “selfie” to add to the photo. Not sure if works completely and I experimented a lot in processing and found that I liked this version the best. The frame maybe not so much, but the harsh yellowish tint and grain add a punch that fits the subject.

Thanks Karen. I need to get my mind spinning again. It’s been stuck in a polar vortex for too long.
