Todays photo, taken right here in my hotel room, is the best I could do today. That says a lot. Just like reaching the end of the internet, I think I photographed everything around here! Okay, probably not, but I’m just not feeling it. I’m sure I’ll find something incredible tomorrow and today will be a distant memory.
Hotel Shadows
Admittedly I was focused on gear more today. I’m still trying out the Olympus E-PM1, which todays photo was taken with, to give it the benefit of the doubt. But I think I’ve come to the conclusion that it won’t work out for me. I could get used to the small body but I still find it a bit awkward to use with any proficiency. It takes nice photos when I take my time but I don’t usually take my time. Of course, I wasn’t expecting the quick response and handling of a DSLR, and I was willing to compromise if the image quality was sufficient, but I don’t seem to be getting it. I know the micro four thirds cameras are capable of good images, I’ve seen some great work done with them, and I like the lenses, so I may try another, slightly larger model.
I’m just looking for something a little less obtrusive than my Pentax for certain situations and when I’m casually walking around. When I’m in my truck and I just hop out to take a photo, my K20D is fine. As a matter of fact I would even like a larger full-frame camera for that type of shooting, but the cost is a little prohibitive, at least right now. A smaller camera could come in handy in places where a larger camera would attract too much attention. It would allow me to explore a little deeper in some areas.
So the search continues.
