THIS IS (not) A FOOD BLOG

Food blogs get all the love 🙂 I think for every one photography oriented blog there are 100 food blogs. For every one photography blog follower there are 1.000 food blog followers. People like food. I like food. People like pictures of food. I like pictures of food. I don’t get to take pictures of food very often. I don’t…

Knot or not?

A maritime still life? Too dark? Too “textury”? Too warm? Too too? These are the questions I asked myself when working on this image. Believe or not (knot?), I like it. An old anchor, textured wood and rope, what’s not to like? I do like the lines of the rope taking you to the anchor and back. I seem to…

Color in the city, at night, without a tripod

While walking around uptown Charlotte for one evening I wanted to grab a few photos of the city since this was the first, and possibly only time I would visit the city. Although I was only in town for the one night, I thought it was a very nice, clean, vibrant city. There certainly were plenty of entertainment and dining options…

Just a photo this evening

I’m tapped out on verbiage at the moment. I’ll catch up tomorrow. For now, enjoy an architecture shot taken in Charlottte, NC.

Trials of creepiness

I had this idea to take this bride and groom photo that I shot while walking around Pittsburgh last weekend and add a Furry head to the groom. I looked in my files of Furries street shots to find just the right head at the right angle and came across this goat-like thing. That was the easy part. My Photoshop…

Let’s mix it up and go outdoors for some colorful fun!

Time to take a break from the junk, er, excuse me, “antique” store windows and go outdoors. Outdoors in this case are some photos from the Magnolia Plantation in South Carolina. A few miscellaneous shots from around the grounds. They’re the best I could do, considering the midday light. I would love to take another walk through on a better…

Found still lifes, No.4

Clearly this egg was a natural for a still life. It was located in a store that seems to specialize in kitschy 60’s furniture and dĂ©cor. The color it reflected was nice but I liked the simplicity of the black and white, which eliminated a few distracting elements. I added a little grain to soften the mood a little.

Found still lifes No. 3

Bottles and vases are always good for a still life photos and this setup was no exception. I’m not too thrilled about the lens flare but maybe it enhances the southwest feel of the late afternoon sunlight which was streaming through the window to the right. Muted color and texture were combined to create this simple composition. Shooting through a…

Found still lifes, No. 1

Regular readers will know that I like to shoot objects in the windows of antique stores. I find these “found still lifes” amusing. Most items are just sitting in the windows, it doesn’t appear that any attempt at a display is made, at least at the shops I visit. But the sometimes unusual items and the juxtaposition with each other…

A fur to remember

When the annual Anthrocon Convention is in Pittsburgh, you can be sure furry hijinks will ensue!! It’s always fun on the 4th of July weekend to go downtown and watch the furry fun. It’s too bad I am the worlds worst street photographer. Gear that I use for my normal stationary subjects photography gives me a hard time when trying to…
