365-357 Happy holidays

My first day off of work before Christmas and I spent most of it sitting in traffic near the malls! Throw in a dark and gloomy rainy day and I couldn’t even take a decent picture if I tried. And I didn’t try. After sleeping in way too late and then trying to get around town for some errands before hitting the shopping areas, it was a non-stop adventure. About halfway through the day, I pretty much decided that I wasn’t going to go out of my way to take a photo. If I saw anything of interest I would take a picture, otherwise I thought I would just wait until I got home. So I went with the obligatory Christmas ornament shots with my Super-Takumar 50mm. I probably could have tried something more interesting but I guess I was just too tired. That’s what sleeping in does to you.

One thing I noticed while shopping today was the complete lack of “Christmasy” feel at the various shopping centers and strip malls I visited. Not so much in the stores but the properties themselves. No lights or decorations. Nothing in the landscape or signage to even hint of a special season. Just dull and dark. I think they took the “politically correct” thing too far in recent years. I don’t like it. Just sayin’.

I think I have the same ornament, though i bought it for more than 99c at Crate and Barrel. Sorry to hear about the dark and dismal malls. Check out my post on decorated New York! It may make you feel better 🙂

Thanks, it pays to shop around! ;-). I enjoyed your series of NYC photos. I love the cities at Christmas, even Pittsburgh looks nice and festive. Things go downhill as you venture into the suburbs.
